Sixty Sixty was established in 1979 as a private hire taxi company. We later added minibuses to our services. We then moved from taxi and minibus private hire to put all our efforts into coaches. We gained our name from our original telephone number '6060'. Due to a move to larger premises in 2000, the telephone number had to change, but the name stayed the same.
Every coach is fitted with lap belts or 3 point belts and each have speed limiters of 62mph (100km/h). Many of our coaches are equipped with Televisions, toilets and refreshments facilities. We do our best to endeavour that every coach keeps the same driver. Click here to see our coaches
We also provide:
School Bus services in the Merthyr Tydfil and Surrounding Area
Transport for Wedding Parties
In an already crowded market it can be bewildering trying to find the right company for your needs. As such we thought we would take the time to let you know what you can expect from us as an already established company.
Over 30 Years Experience – First established in 1979 we pride ourselves on offering a professional service that you cannot get with smaller operators. We know our business inside out and offer piece of mind and confidence that you are being handled by professionals.
Your Local Operator – Having always been based in Merthyr Tydfil we know the local area very well. We like to champion Merthyr and Wales whenever we get the opportunity and have had some of our buses painted with famous landmarks and icons for all to see.
Safety & Legal Assurance – All our vehicles are regularly inspected to ensure that they meet the required legal guidelines. Most companies just have somewhere to park their vehicles and then send them elsewhere to be checked, however we have a team of in-house fitters that make sure our coaches are in tip-top condition. All our drivers have been CRB checked with at least 1 to 2 councils. If the worst case scenario should occur, as required by law we are fully covered by our insurers under the public liability section.
We Keep It Simple – Once you have a rough idea of the details for your booking get in touch by phone, fax, email, or post and we will give you a quote. If you then want to go ahead with the booking all we require is the full details in writing, that’s it! We can even book you in provisionally if you want to keep the date but haven’t yet finalised the details.
Flexibility – We understand that sometimes things happen that can change plans at short notice. With a large fleet of vehicles we can accommodate most requests that are made of us, and will often be able to make amendments to bookings (usually up until 24hrs before the date of the booking) should you need to make changes.
A Little Bit Extra – Unlike some of the other operators, we work from our own depot. Rather than just a place to park, it’s where we have our offices, canteen, and workshop. As a result we can offer schools a pre-arranged tour of our depot free of charge! From feedback from other schools we have found that this instils a better understanding and respect for public transport.
If you would like to find out more about any of the above, or have questions of your own please get in touch
All European tour operators are restricted by driver's hour's regulations that are enforced by police Europe-wide. For the purposes of most tours the rules are quite simple.
A driver is working from the time the tachograph is inserted and has 15 hours in which to complete his daily duties including any driving.
He can drive 9 hours a day in periods that are no greater than 4.5 hrs. Once 4.5hrs have been driven then 45 mins of rest must be taken.
Twice in a week the driver may drive a total of 10 hrs.
After 6 days the driver must have a weekly break of 45 hrs, which can be reduced to 24hrs for convenience, however this reduction of time must be added onto the next weekly rest of 45hrs.
For most tours the rules work out well, but if there are long drives then double manning may be required.
We will offer you the best solutions to planning your tour whilst staying within the regulations.
The 15 hours working period can sometimes cause a problem when hotel pick ups are required by the client and a long drive has to be done after load out as the driver may run out of time
